A Bernedoodle is a combination of a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. At Salty Doodles, we breed Standard Bernedoodles, meaning our Bernedoodles will range from about 50lbs to 80lbs+ depending on the stud used.
We offer both F1 and F1B Standard Bernedoodles. F1 Bernedoodles are a 50/50 cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle. Depending on what coat traits the puppy inherits from the Poodle, will determine the level of shedding. Although it is possible to have F1 Bernedoodles that do not shed at all, it is also common for F1 Bernedoodles to shed as they are the first generation cross between the two breeds.
F1B Bernedoodles are referred to as crossbacks and are among the most popular generation of Bernedoodles as they tend to be the most hypoallergenic of all Bernedoodles. F1B Bernedoodles are 75% Poodle and 25% Bernese Mountain Dog.
By combining these two breeds, you get the best of both worlds. Bernedoodles are known for being highly intelligent, hardworking, loving and at times, a little goofy.
Bernedoodles make excellent family pets and can work well for those suffering from allergies
Standard Bernedoodles can live an average of 12 to 18 years with proper diet, exercise, vet care and genetics.
The breed is highly intelligent and is great for active families or individuals who enjoy hiking.
In general, your Bernedoodle should be brushed two to three times per week and more if you decide to keep a longer coat or lead an active lifestyle with your dog.
It is reccomended that your Bernedoodle recieve their first professional groom after they have received all of their puppy vaccinations (around 16 weeks of age).
It is also reccomended to have your Bernedoodle professionally groomed every 6-8 weeks, but this can vary based on owner preference.
